An Artist in Eden – The work of Ruth Maddison 2000-2005
‘An Artist in Eden’ is a half hour documentary about artist Ruth Maddison – a photographer who abandoned Melbourne for the small town of Eden on the far south coast of NSW ten years ago. In Eden, Ruth has been photographing the youth, the fisherman, the town, the seaweed. She uses her ideas, lens, text, sunprints, found photos imaginatively and creatively. She has moved from a large city to a small village, from darkroom to digital. Ruth is thoughtful, reflexive and very talented. Her work and work methods are dynamic, inspirational and compelling.
The style of the film is a mixture of observational footage of Ruth at work with her subjects, her stunning photographs and artwork and interviews. The spectacular environs feature – the town, bush, sea, fishing boats and mountains.
